Ebony Nyoni, Black Lives Matter Vermont co-founder, speaks at Green Mountain College's
MLK Celebration: Freedom From Oppression event Monday morning in Poultney, January 15, 2018. Nyoni rallied the crowd and chanted "Black Lives Matter." Nyoni brought a call to action, saying that racism must be stopped at its roots. "It's not just here in America." She spoke about the current challenges facing African Americans, quoting recent comments from President Donald Trump: "You heard him," you heard Trump, Africa doesn't matter, you heard him, we're 'shitholes.'" Nyoni finished her speech with a moment of silence for Erica Garner, an activist against police brutality who passed away in 2017.
